Stacy Mitchell
Drug and Alcohol Counseling and Human Services
Stacy Mitchell worked in the corporate world for 25 years, but after her division was sold she decided she wanted to do something different. This led Mitchell to enroll at Delaware Tech to pursue a degree in drug and alcohol counseling. When she found out that only four additional courses would also earn her a human services degree, she decided to do both.
At first, Mitchell wasn’t sure she wanted to go back to school. However, she enjoyed the experience so much that after earning her associate degrees she went on to receive a bachelor’s degree from Wilmington University.
Her time at Delaware Tech proved valuable when joining the workforce, as the two internships built into the program prepared her for a career. She received job offers from both internships and joined the People’s Place SAFE program team.
Mitchell serves as a housing and employment coordinator for survivors of domestic violence. Her time spent at People’s Place during her internship made her want to “empower women and help them get back on their feet.”
For prospective students contemplating attending Delaware Tech, Mitchell said, “Do it. The opportunities you get do wonders for employment, and make the most of the internships.”
Mitchell plans to continue working in human services, specifically within domestic violence or other victim services, because she enjoys helping people.
